THE PLOT

SG-1 head toward the gate room to embark on a mission to help the Enkarens find a new world. As the gate dials up the 7th chevron will not lock and no fault can be found. As Sam and the chevron guy search through the data they find that an energy spike occurred about 8 minutes before they started dialling, the energy spike is the same as that found when another gate on Earth is used. Checking for any seismic activity at the time the gate was used they find some in Siberia, the Russians have a stargate.

Seismic activity registers in Siberia.

In a briefing General Hammond tells them that the Russians have found the stargate that obviously wasn't destroyed with Thor's ship (see Nemesis). The Russians aren't denying it but they also know about the SGC and the US stargate program. Hammond tells them that the Russian stargate has been activated but can't be shut down, a Dr Markov has persuaded the Russian government to allow SG-1 to look into the situation.

Arriving at the Kuybyshev Airbase in Russia, SG-1 meet Dr Markov, she knows quite abit about them which disturbs SG-1 slightly.

SG-1 meet Dr Markov.

They fly to the base where the Russians have the stargate, unfortunately the runway is iced over so they will have jump out of the plane, much to Daniel and Teal'c's discomfort. On landing Daniel and Teal'c are separated from the others but they meet up in the base. The base wasn't built for the stargate, it is some kind of decommisoned experimental power station, but Markov won't say what. They find the men who used to run the facility, they are dead, either shot or they died from the extreme measures protocol, nerve gas being released into the environment. Markov goes to look for something in a storage container but it is gone, she tells Jack and Sam that it was a sample of water they recovered from a planet where the gate is submerged in water, the sample was giving out heat and they hoped it could be a power source. The gate is connected to the water planet and Markov calls up the drone they sent there, as they look at some of the telemetry they see dead men in the water, why would they go threw the gate knowing they would die? Sam suddenly realises that the gate is being kept open because the signal the drone is sending back will not allow it to disconnect and the energy in the water is keeping the gate powered for this prolonged period. Daniel and Teal'c meanwhile have been counting up the dead, it seems the soldiers shot the scientists. Markov tries to shut the drone down, but it won't, she tells them that they will have to go threw in a sub and shut it down manually. Daniel and Sam will go with Markov while Jack and Teal'c find the rest of the missing men.

The sub arrives on the water planet, they capture the drone and the gate shuts down. As they go to explore some ruins the sub gets stuck in the water, but nothing it actually there to stop them moving. As Markov pushes the engines harder they blow out leaving the sub crippled.

The sub arrives at the water world.

As Jack and Teal'c search the rest of the base they arrive in the kitchens. Seeing some footprints leading into the freezer they open the door and find Col. Maybourne frozen solid.

"Holy frozen bad guys."

Removing him from the freezer he starts to thaw out, and seemingly impossibly so has a heart beat, then starts breathing. With a glazed look on his face he gets up and starts to walk out of the room, Teal'c and Jack stop him and he coughs up a load of water and vapour.

On the sub Sam finds that the pressure on the hull is increasing but they are at a stable depth, that shouldn't be happening. Dr Markov has fixed the engines and they try to move again but they aren't going anywhere and Markov shuts them off again.

Meanwhile at the Russian base, the water and vapour Maybourne coughed up absorbs itself into Teal'c.

Teal'c is taken over by the alien.

Maybourne pushes Jack into the freezer with him and tells him there is nothing they can do for Teal'c. As they watch Teal'c takes on the glazed look and walks off. Maybourne tells Jack that the water is actually alive, it contains microscopic entities, they want to return home, this is why they opened the gate. It started when the scientists opened the container, one was possessed and tried to open the gate, the soldiers started shooting and other scientists were affected, some escaping threw the gate when the EM protocol was activated and the gas released, he was forced into the freezer the aliens inside him. Jack will not give up on Teal'c and goes after him.

On the sub Daniel and Sam are starting to realise the water could be alive, they perceive the sub as a threat that is why it can't move. The observation bubble on the sub starts to buckle and then implodes but the water doesn't rush in, instead in just forms a cover over the hole. Daniel goes up to it and touches it, suddenly he starts getting pulled in and Sam and Markov go to his rescue, but they to are engulfed in the liquid.

Daniel is interested in the liquid.

At the base Jack tries to stop Teal'c but Teal'c is to strong for him. Teal'c dials up the water planet and moves towards the gate, suddenly he stops and coughs up the water/vapour which then returns threw the gate. Teal'c tells Jack the alien never wanted to kill him, just return home.

The alien leaves Teal'c and goes home.

The gate then reactivates and Daniel, Sam and Markov are thrown threw. Jack speculates that they have just had a hostage exchange.
