SG-1 are being attacked by Gliders. As they escape through the gate an Alkesh joins in the attack, it is piloted by Tanith. Teal'c destroys the cockpit and steps through the gate, the Alkesh crashes into it. At the SGC the gate shuts down but Teal'c has not come back. They try dialling up the planet again but get an unknown error, something is wrong with the gate itself. Sam thinks that the wormhole procedure was stopped while Teal'c was in transit and they should abort the dial out, Hammond agrees and they stop. Sam does some checks on the gate and finds an energy signature is in the memory buffer, it must be Teal'c. They decide to weld the iris into the centre of the gate to stop anyone dialling in at all and also contact the Russians to see if they can help as they have the dominant gate on Earth if powered. Daniel travels to Russia to liase with them while Sam tells Jack she is worried there could be no way of getting Teal'c back.
Daniel arrives in Russia with Major Davis and they meet the Russian Colonel they are to liase with (the Colonel from the end of The Tomb). He tells them SG-5 and 8 have already returned, however they are not helping them out of good faith.
At the SGC Col. Simmons arrives with a Doctor McKay who has been working at Area 51, he is regarded as the lead intelligence in the stargate. Simmons tells them they have 48 hours in which to solve the problem before the gate is put back into use. Sam and McKay have that long to come up with a solution.
At a gas station Maybourne catches up with Jack, he tells him that it wasn't him who shot him in the back, he doesn't know who it was but to watch Simmons.
Daniel phones Sam from Russia and tells her that they have managed to send a team out to speak to the Tok'ra, they were told a DHD would have allowed the re-integration process to complete, however adding a DHD now will most likely reset the gate and erase the memory. It doesn't look like the Russians will give us their gate anyway.
Simmons goes to see Hammond in private, he tells him he could get the information to save Teal'c but there would be a cost.
Jack goes too see Maybourne, he tells him Simmons has asked for a Goa'uld hand device in exchange for the knowledge to save Teal'c, Maybourne says it is obvious they have the Goa'uld and that it must have been Simmons who shot him in the back.
In Russia Daniel asks how much it would take to obtain the DHD permanently, the Russians will not discuss it until the US has declared to them in full all the technologies obtained via the stargate project.
Maybourne has found out that Simmons recently visited an NID safehouse in North Dakota, he and Jack pay it a visit. Inside they find the Goa'uld and Jack demands to know what he told Simmons in relation to saving Teal'c, however the Goa'uld will not talk. Jack sees a camera in the cell and he and Maybourne go to find the tape.
In Russia Daniel manages to get them to agree to loaning the DHD with supervision, after agreeing a deal for the Russians to get Naquada generator technology. At the SGC Hammond has been instructed to restart operations. As the gate starts to dial up Sam gets a call from Jack, he has the information to save Teal'c and also to incriminate Simmons. Hammond stops the dial up and has Simmons arrested.
The Goa'uld told Simmons that to stop the signature being erased the main control crystal should be removed before connecting it too the gate, once connected the re-integration will be completed. Dr McKay points out that removing the crystal could cause the gate to explode, however Hammond decides to go with the idea. Having attached the DHD the gate starts and Teal'c returns, however the DHD blows up. Teal'c finally has his revenge.
