THE PLOT

SG-1 return to Earth with a new piece of technology, it appears to have been designed by the Ancients. As they talk in the gate room Jonas sees an alien looking creature flying around, it disappears into a wall but no one else saw it.

After a search of the base brings up nothing, Hammond returns it to normal status. He also gives SG-1 some time off. O'Neill is going to go off fishing on his own while Sam and Jonas look into the device. As Jonas has his hand on it, a creature crawls over it, however Sam can't see it. Jonas is checked over for Naquadria poisoning but is given the all clear. Later Jonas and Teal'c are walking down the corridor, this time Teal'c sees one of the creatures.

Jack pulls into a service station and gets talking with the guy running it, he is called Vernon and is an ex-soldier. As he fills up he sees one of the creatures and tries to shoot it, Vernon however can't see anything. Jack calls in the sighting.

Jonas is working on the writings on the device. It says that the Ancients were studying creatures 'of another layer', which Sam takes to mean of another dimension. Sam apologises to Jonas for not believing him as he is now part of the team. They have a briefing and tell Hammond that the creatures are native to Earth, you just normally can't see them. Hammond orders the device shut off. Sam pulls out the devices main crystal core and it shuts down, no one can see anything around.

Later in the canteen someone sees one of the creatures, turning the device off didn't work. They decide to take the device back to P9X-391, however the creatures can still be seen so they bring the device back. In a briefing they discuss how they can still see the creatures even though the device is turned off. They work out that Jonas was the first person to see anything, he was also the first one to touch the device. They decide that the device only calls the creatures to it to study when turned on, touching it is what allows people to see the creatures and then it is passed by touch.

In the gas station Vernon sees one of the creatures. Back at SGC Hammond tells Sam that the story for the outside world is that there has been a chemical spill that makes people hallucinate, however they need to get it all sorted out. The Colorado Springs area is cordoned off and Jack goes to search out Vernon.

At SGC Jonas and Sam have been working on the device. They have worked out that be re-arranging the control crystals you can get the device to do different things, they need to find out which combination will reverse the effects. After a while Sam says she has worked out the combination (it is about the only one they have left to try!) and they turn the machine back on. Jonas touches it and is not able to see the creatures anymore, Sam and Hammond both touch it and the creatures disappear from their view as well.

Jack calls Hammond and tells him that Vernon has gone of the run, he asks Hammond to get Jonas and Sam to look into it. Vernon meanwhile gets a lift to the airport. Sam and Jonas find Vernon's grandmother and go to see her. She tells them that Vernon will probably go to see a guy called Chuck. Vernon gets to the airport and buys a one way ticket to Las Vegas. Teal'c tells Sam that another sighting has been called in at Piedmont and that a man matching Vernon's description was given a lift to the airport there. O'Neill is informed and heads down there.

All the flights at the airport are cancelled and people start seeing the creatures. Jack catches up with Vernon in a hanger. Vernon tells Jack that they are going to kill him for what he knows, but Jack says that isn't going to happen. Jack tells him the creatures are aliens and that he can help Vernon stop seeing them. Jack asks him one soldier to another to keep quiet, he agrees.
