A load of children are helping Daniel excavate the inside of the gate room on the planet Orban when Jack and Teal'c arrive through the gate. The two cultures are to undergo an exchange program, the SGC will borrow an Orbanian Naquada reactor while Teal'c and Daniel stay on Orban.
Jack, Kalan and Merrin prepare to return to Earth.
Arriving on Earth the young Orbanian girl Merrin presents Sam with the reactor and then she and the man Kalan go to leave, Sam is confused, is no one going to stay and teach her how to use the reactor? Merrin says that she will stay to teach Sam.
Back on Orban, Kalan presents his son Tomin to Teal'c, Teal'c is to instruct him about the Goa'uld while Kalan gives Daniel a tour of the city.
On Earth Merrin is talking to Sam, Jack and Dr Frasier, they are surprised that she is only 11 and so intelligent, she doesn't understand why Sam and Dr Frasier had to learn their knowledge at a school, infact she has never heard of a school. Later Sam and Merrin are discussing the reactor, Sam can't take in what Merrin is telling her about it.
Merrin and Sam discuss the reactor.
Dr Frasier enters and says that she needs to run some follow up tests on Merrin. In the infirmary Frasier shows the others some nanites she has found in Merrin's blood and brain, Merrin tells that they are harmless and Sam believes her.
On Orban Tomin goes to see his father, he says he wants to undergo the Ovarium now as he has learnt a lot from Teal'c about the Goa'uld and needs to pass it on so the Orbanians can start to construct a defence against them.
At the SGC Sam asks Merrin to draw the reactor, she says she doesn't know how to draw and Sam shows her how to do a quick sketch, Merrin then goes to work on the plans of the reactor.
Daniel meanwhile has found proof that the Goa'uld have been on Orban sometime in the last few hundred years.
Daniel finds proof of the Goa'uld.
Kalan enters with a new boy, Solen, he asks Teal'c to tell him methods to fight the Goa'uld, Teal'c asks why Tomin isn't here and is told it is past his Ovarium, Teal'c says that he has built up a rap ore with Tomin and will only speak to him, he demands to see him. Kalan takes them to see Tomin, he is in a very childlike state and doesn't recognise any of them, Kalan tells them that the nanites have been removed from Tomin's brain and distributed throughout the Orban population.
Returning to Earth, Teal'c tells them what is going on on Orban, Jack says that Merrin must not be sent back, Hammond says he doesn't want any trouble and Jack must not take matters into his own hands, Teal'c returns to Orban where Kalan demands Merrin is returned immediately.
Later Kalan is going to dial up Earth but Daniel stops him, Kalan tells Daniel that if Merrin doesn't undergo the Ovarium it will take another 12 years for them to learn the Naquada technology, Merrin knows this and wants to undergo the Ovarium, Daniel concedes.
Daniel concedes the Ovarium is necessary.
At the SGC Merrin goes to see Sam, she is having trouble getting the reactor she has built working, Sam figures out what is wrong with the reactor and stops Merrin from telling her the answers, she tells Merrin that figuring it out yourself is very rewarding. Merrin tells Sam that she must return to Orban for her Ovarium. In Hammond's Office Kalan has arrived with Daniel, Jack is called in and told Merrin is to be returned, he storms out and finds Merrin, he takes her to a school.
At the school Jack asks the teacher who he knows to let Merrin take part in class that afternoon, the teacher agrees as it is only art class. They children are told to draw something they love and Merrin starts to draw the reactor, Jack rips her piece of paper up and tells her to draw some flowers, lots of flowers. When she has finished Merrin thanks Jack for teaching her and Jack agrees to let her go home.
Merrin shows Jack her finished drawing.
Back at the SGC Jack gives Merrin some crayons as she goes to leave. Sometime later Hammond gather up SG-1 and tells them that they have received a signal from Orban, Kalan wants them to go there.
Arriving on Orban they find that all the children are learning the traditional way and playing games, drawing etc... What Merrin learnt on Earth has been passed on during her Ovarium, SG-1 seem happy with the outcome.
Merrin is drawing and learning the old way.
