Jack goes to see Hammond about the ridiculous mission he is about to embark on. In Hammonds office is General Ryan the Chief Of Staff of the airforce. Jack soon changes his mind about the mission to M4C-862 when he sees Ryan.

At a cadet school Sam is giving a lecture on space/time & wormhole stuff. After the lecture a Cadet Haley approaches and tells Sam one of the equations she wrote on the board is incorrect. After she has gone Sam realises that the equation is infact wrong.

Jack & Teal'c arrive on M4C-862 to take over from Major Griff and SG-2 in 'babysitting' some scientists at there research facility there. It appears there is some tension between the two parties.

Sam goes to see General Kerrigan about Cadet Haley, she is told Haley is a brilliant but stubborn and headstrong Cadet, Sam asks to speak to her.

On 862 the head scientist Dr Hamilton approaches Jack about why he is refusing to let him and the science team go into the caves. Jack tells him that he isn't refusing, just wanting to check them out himself first to make sure they are safe. Hamilton storms off.

Sam goes to see Haley. They talk about an assignment she did about Cosmology. Haley thinks that she is completely correct in the theories she wrote about in her paper. Sam and Haley get into a bit of a heated conversation and Haley leaves after asking to be dismissed.

Jack and Teal'c are returning from studying the caves, there was no threat and Jack radios Hamilton to say he can go in. As they walk back they encounter an energy being that can pass through solid matter.

A while later the three scientists try to sneak out to look for the energy being against Jack's orders, but Jack catches them. They argue over who should be in charge and Jack gets the upper hand.

At the cadet school Sam finds out that General Kerrigan is about to expel Haley for hitting another pupil. Sam goes to speak to him and persuades him that Haley must be allowed to stay on as she is the sort of person they need where she works. Kerrigan agrees to discipline her but not expel her. They call Haley in and Sam says that the door is open she can quit, Haley refuses. Outside in the corridor Sam speaks to Haley again, it seems that Haley is always being compared to the 'great' Sam Carter and she is sick of it, as she walks away Sam tells her that her future is more amazing than she could ever imagine.

At the research facility one of the energy beings enters the base. The scientists follow it and it takes them to a swarm of others. Hamilton stands in the middle of them showing that they are harmless.

Sam has bought Haley to the SGC, she talks Hammond into letting her go on a little field trip to 862. They go to the research facility and find that the scientists have trapped one of the energy beings in a containment field created by electricity. Sam tells them it may not like being cooped up and Jack orders Hamilton to let it go.

In the woods the other two head scientists are looking for the creatures. Dr Thompson finds them but is attacked by them and killed.

They try to evacuate the base but find the swarm has surrounded them. Going back inside Sam suggests they try using zats as they produce an energy blast which the creatures seem to dislike, when they attack they are able to drive them off. As they mass for another attack Sam electrifies the walls to try and keep them out, it works, but how long will the generator last?

They all hope the electric field will work.

Sam thinks the creatures are attacking because one of them was held, she them comes up with an idea. The gate is a massive superconductor, if they can dial out the creatures will be driven away from the area. After noticing that the creatures moved fast away from Hamilton when Teal'c had to zat him they deduce that the bodies electrical charge, boosted by a zat blast will keep the creatures at bay for a while. Haley though thinks the creatures are attacking because the moon is passing over the poles of the gas giant it is orbiting, thus there is a larger electrical field which they know affects the creatures, if they wait the creatures will return to there docile state. Jack decides to go with Sam's idea than wait to see if Haley is correct.

Teal'c zats Jack and he makes a run for the gate. The creatures try to attack him but are deflected by the energy field in his body. He makes it to the DHD and starts dialling, as he reaches the 3rd chevron the creatures break through and attack.

Jack starts dialling.

Jack manages to dial another 2 symbols but collapses under the attack. Just then Teal'c arrives and forces the creatures away, Jack finishes dialling and the gate activates, the creatures all move away. Everyone leaves, leaving Haley to ponder if she or Sam was correct about the creatures behaviour.
