SG-1 are on an alien world surveying the ruins of a city. Sam is in one of the buildings looking over a structure in there. After O'Neill tells her not to touch anything she continues to fiddle. Something else is in the room with her unknown to Sam. Daniel goes to get the camera from her but finds that she has been knocked unconcious.
Back at the SGC Sam seems to be fine. They are discussing the device with a Col. Reynolds who is going to be leading SG-16 in its long term analysis of the planet. Hammond refuses Sam's request to join SG-16 and orders her to take some time off, she goes home.
At Sam's home something is watching her.
The next day Sam goes to collect her paper and sees a man standing outside her house, he starts to talk to her but Sam goes back inside and calls Daniel and asks him how the translation of the writings on the planet is going, he tells her he hasn't started yet. Putting the phone down Sam turns round and the man on her drive is standing in front of her. He introduces himself as Orlin and says he is from the planet they visited, he tells Sam he has fallen in love with her and proceeds to walk through her worktop to prove he isn't human.
Sam calls in a code 3 team who set up a remote surveillance system in her house but they never see anything. After the cameras are removed Orlin shows himself again, he tells her that he tried to communicate with her on 636 (the planet Velona) but she passed out. Orlin wants to give the process another go and Sam allows him, Orlin transforms into a being very similar to Oma Desala (Maternal Instinct).
The next day Sam goes to the SGC with a hidden bug she has found in her house, she asks Jack outright if the SGC is spying on her, he says they aren't. Sam goes back to work, she finds out the Pentagon wants to device on Velona, which is a weapon, tested, it is possible but would be dangerous. Sam goes home and finds Orlin has prepared a meal for her, he has also transformed himself into a proper human. Jack and Teal'c turn up with pizza and a video but Orlin can't disappear and has to hide, Sam gets ride of them. Outside a van is parked up, in it there are some men watching Sam's house via video and audio links.
At the SGC a Col. Frank Simmons has arrived from the Pentagon, he is there to oversee the test firing of the weapon. Sam disagrees with the test as she has been told by Orlin that his own people wiped out the civilization on the planet when they used the weapon, they could do the same to the humans. Sam tells them that the testing could cause a weather anomoly and needs to be investigated further. Hammond gives her two weeks to prove her theories.
Orlin and Sam take a walk in the park, she asks him if his people will try to stop the weapons test, Orlin tells her they may but he isn't sure.
Arriving back at the SGC Sam is told the weapon test is going ahead. Simmons tells her that the Pentagon have been watching her house, without the SGC's knowledge and they know about Orlin, Special Forces are surrounding the house as they speak and are going to go in and take Orlin prisoner.
They all go to Sam's house and Jack gets Simmons to let Sam go inside to speak to Orlin.
Sam finds Orlin in the basement, he has built a mini stargate. The special forces storm the house but Sam has already left with Orlin to Velona.
On Velona storm clouds are gathering. Orlin tries to stop SG-16's test but Reynolds shoots him. Orlin ascends into his alien form and takes the Naquada generator with him. It explodes in the sky above them, a shockwave carries back down and destroys the weapon.
