THE PLOT

The episode starts with a reprise of events in both Exodus and Enemies.

Jack goes to see Teal'c in his cell, Teal'c seems to be back to his normal self and they let him out. Outside Brat'ac is waiting, he goes to Teal'c and tells the others that Teal'c is deceiving them. Teal'c tries to run but is cornered and zatted by Brat'ac. Brat'ac leans over Teal'c and removes his symbiote.

In a briefing Brat'ac tells them that the removal of Teal'c's symbiote is called the Rite Of Malshuri, and that either Teal'c will remember his true self or die, the rite will make Teal'c's life flash before his eyes so he can see why he left Apophis's service, when he remembers the symbiote will be replaced.

In the infirmary Brat'ac tells Teal'c to remember the past. Teal'c remembers them fighting together for Apophis against the forces of Ra. Teal'c remembers the first time he met Apophis, he had fought well yet Apophis punished him for the fact that his father failed Cronos.

Teal'c looses consciousness and Brat'ac leaves the room to undergo Kelnorim. Daniel and Jack stay with Teal'c. Teal'c starts to remember someone called Valar and speaks his name. Regaining consciousness Teal'c starts shouting out Brat'ac's name but then remembers fighting Brat'ac in the snow, Brat'ac beats him and tells him Apophis isn't a god and can't protect him all the time, he needs to rely on his own strength.

Daniel talks to Teal'c and tells him that it is completely illogical for him to be a double agent. Teal'c remembers his wife Dray'ac, they argue about Apophis being a God.

Sam and Teal'c now talk, Teal'c asks her to help him escape but she refuses. Teal'c now remembers that after a battle with Ra's forces that Valar had been in charge of. The battle had not gone well and Valar had asked Teal'c to speak well of him to Apophis and that he is willing to return to the planet to finish the job.

Teal'c and Brat'ac see Apophis, he orders Valar killed by Teal'c. Teal'c takes Valar down to the planets surface but instead of killing him lets him go, Valar tells Teal'c that Apophis will know what has happened but Teal'c tells him to go and not return. Teal'c returns to the ship with the symbiote from a dead Jaffa and shows it to Apophis, Apophis believes Valar is dead.

A few days later Teal'c is with his wife, he is troubled and tells her what happened with Valar, he also tells her that a couple of days later he had to attack a village full of Ra's followers, the same village he sent Valar too to be safe, he had to burn the village to the ground killing women, children and Valar, he can't sleep as he can see the innocent faces of the villagers and his friend.

Teal'c is made the new first prime of Apophis and goes to see Brat'ac. Brat'ac tells him that he selected him for the training as he knew he had it in him to protect the innocent as best he can and that he saw the doubts of the Goa'uld's god-hood. Brat'ac tells Teal'c that he will be able to temper Apophis at times but at others will have to do terrible things.

Teal'c now remembers the time SG-1 were imprisoned on Chulak (Children Of The Gods), he shows them to Brat'ac who tells him not to pin his hopes on them being his way to freedom, but Teal'c seems very keen on helping them.

In the infirmary Teal'c goes into de fib. Dr Frasier is told to stand aside and Brat'ac leans over Teal'c and tells him to now choose freedom or death. Teal'c seems to be dead and Brat'ac allows Frasier to put the symbiote back in. Teal'c has more flashbacks to times with SG-1 and he regains consciousness, he tells them he chooses freedom. Brat'ac looks into his eyes and tells them he is telling the truth, the rite has succeeded.
