On the planet Kelmar a man called Katano is giving a speech to assembled Jaffa. He tells them he used to be the First Prime of Imothep, who he killed with his bare hands. He tells them the Goa'uld are not Gods and gets a massive cheer. He tells the crowd that they will have freedom and will grow into an army to defeat the Goa'uld. Listening in the crowd are Teal'c and Brat'ac.
At the SGC Teal'c and Brat'ac hold a briefing. Brat'ac tells them that they could form an alliance with Katano's freedom fighting Jaffa. The discuss the situation and what exactly they could do. It is decided that SG-1 will go to Kelmar and meet Katano, they will take some weapons with them as a gesture of goodwill.
Arriving on Kelmar they meet Racn'or (The Serpent's Venom), who is one of Katano's followers. He tells the others at the gate that they can trust the Tau'ri. When they are shown the weapons however there is disappointment, the Jaffa were hoping for 'real' weapons (staffs and zats). However, they head off for the camp. Once at the camp they observe some warriors training. Brat'ac gives a young warrior called Tur'oc some pointers in defence and patience when using a staff weapon, however Racn'or tells them that Katano teaches differently and that they should be attacking not defending.
Katano returns from a mission, they have recovered zats from Zipacna's forces. Katano meets SG-1 and they tell him what they can offer. Carter gives a demo of a P90 vrs a staff to show they the weapons are not inferior. The demo goes well and the Jaffa accept the weapons, SG-1 go with Katano to discuss the alliance.
Over a meal a number of points are raised, including Earth holding out if they don't agree with Katano's ways. Brat'ac says that it is hope both sides can learn and grow from each other. Katano says that tomorrow they will go on a mission together against Nyeti's forces, they will share the spoils.
The next day they wait in ambush for Nyerti's Jaffa. During a firefight Katano just steps right out infront of them and challenges them to shoot him if they don't believe in freedom, Jack can't believe it. Katano's influence is strong and Nyerti's jaffa join his cause. On the way back to the camp Jack talks to Teal'c, Jack is angry with the tactics Katano used, however it is clear Teal'c believes everything Katano does. Jack tells Daniel and Sam he is worried about Teal'c.
Later Katano tells them that he is expecting a mothership, Jaffa onboard are rebelling and bringing it to his cause, Jack is skeptical. Katano takes them to the gate and tells them he will show them their resolve, a group of Jaffa lead by Tur'oc go through on a suicide mission to cover any tracks left during the raid against Nyerti. Jack is furious, he accuses Katano of being power hungry and they argue on the differences of their ways.
As Katano plans an attack on Yu's homeworld Jack tells Teal'c they are leaving and he wants him to come back with them. Teal'c says his place is here with his brothers and Katano tells Jack that Teal'c has been chosen to lead the attack against Yu. At the gate site they watch as Katano's men depart, Jack tells Teal'c any alliance is off and he doesn't expect Teal'c to return, he leaves anyway.
Teal'c is dragged before Yu in his palace. Yu tells Teal'c that he is not as weak as some have been led to believe, he proceeds to tell him that he can return to his rebel friends but there is something he must know.
On Kelmar Jack tells Katano that he is holding him personally responsible for Teal'c, they head off to the gate. As Carter starts to dial someone dials in. Teal'c runs through the gate and off towards the camp, ignoring his friends. They follow him.
Teal'c arrives at the camp shouting 'deceiver'. He tells the other and Katano that Yu and the System Lords know everything and that the mothership coming here will wipe them out, not join them. Teal'c challenges Katano's leadership in a fight to the death. Katano's kicks Teal'c ass and kneels before him asking him to beg for mercy, Teal'c refuses. Katano tells him he will die by the hand of his god, he is the Goa'uld Imothep. Teal'c summons his remaining strength and stabs Katano in the chest, killing him. Teal'c tells the gathered Jaffa that although Katano was false, the cause is not. As Yu's ship attacks the rebels follow Teal'c back to Earth.
