SG-1 arrive on Cartego, Teal'c has been here before as it is a favourite planet of the Goa'uld for 'harvesting' hosts. They enter a court room but are ambushed by the locals, the locals, called Bursa, see Teal'c and arrest him for crimes against them, including killing one of the Bursa's father.
Teal'c is surrounded.
The Elders tell Jack that he, Daniel and Sam can go but Teal'c is staying for Cor-ai, he is shown a crutch and remembers the time when in Apophis's service they came to Cartega and he killed the man, Hannou, father. Teal'c is locked up and the Bursa leave. O'Neill tells Teal'c he will come up with a rescue plan but Teal'c says he wishes to stand trial for his crimes and to leave would be disrespectful to the Bursa.
The next day Teal'c's council arrive to take his confession, but Jack says that he will be Teal'c's council. Teal'c is taken to the court and the trial begins. Hannou says that the penalty for his crime is death, but Jack interrupts and says this isn't fair, Hannou can't be both judge and jury but he is over-ruled and this is how cor-ai is done. Hannou asks Teal'c if he is the one who killed his father and he says he is.
The trial begins.
Teal'c and Jack talk, he asks him what happened. Teal'c tells him that Apophis ordered Teal'c to kill one of the Bursa and he killed Hannou's father. Teal'c tells Jack that the case represents the many crimes he has commited in Apophis's name and that he will not run, Jack says that is unacceptable.
Jack talks to Teal'c.
The cor-ai restarts and Daniel gives evidence, he says that Teal'c was responsible for his wife being a Goa'uld but now he knows Teal'c is a changed man and also his friend. Later Daniel finds out that when the Goa'uld come to Cartego they locals run and hide in caves nearby, if someone can't make it they all stay. Daniel goes and asks Teal'c about the truth of what happened, Teal'c says that Apophis ordered a Bursa killed and seeing that Hannou's father was a cripple and knowing how the Bursa hide this man would slow them down, he also noticed Hannou's father moved forward and so chose him. This information is brought before the cor-ai and Daniel says that the death of Hannou's father, one man, probably saved many of them there in the court. The elders say it is upto Hannou to choose what happens and Hannou says that even though he has put forward a good argument it doesn't bring his father back, Teal'c will die.
Hannou confronts Teal'c in court.
Jack and Sam have returned to the SGC to see if they can get a unit to help free Teal'c. Hammond says the Bursa have shown no sign of hostility and all they are doing is abiding by their own laws, therefore no armed unit will be sent.
Hammond and Jack talk.
Arriving back on Cartego Jack and Sam find the Goa'uld are attacking. Jack manages to get a staff weapon off one of them and helps the Bursa and Hannou out.
The Jaffa attack.
The Jaffa lad by Shak'el find Teal'c. Teal'c manages to kill him in a struggle.
Teal'c kills Shak'el.
Teal'c saves the Bursa that are in the room with him, when Hannou learns what has happened he says Teal'c is indeed a changed man and lets him go.
