SG-1 are with a woman called Laira on the planet Edora, they are awaiting the 'fire rain', meteor showers that occur on a yearly basis. As it starts one of the meteors bounces off the atmosphere, Sam is very worried as the event usually gets worst over the proceeding few days.
The next day Sam shows Laira some information on Edora and its Solar System, it seems the planet passes through an asteroid belt, Sam returns to Earth to input the data onto the SGC's computers. Daniel, Teal'c, Laira's son Goran and his girlfriend go to do some geology. Daniel works out that there have been impact events in the past, around every 150 years, another one is now due.
Daniel tells Goran about the local geology.
Jack and Laira discuss a treaty between Earth and Edora, as they talk the fire rain starts, Laira says she has never before seen it during the day, one of the meteors again gets very close.
To close for comfort.
At Daniels site they find some cooking utensils, they surmise that the ancestors of the Edorans hid there during the last impact event.
Jack has everyone gather at the village and informs them of the situation, he says they are welcome to return to Earth until the danger is over, some of the Edorans decide to go, others will not leave their homes. As they start to depart Laira finds Goran has gone missing, Jack and Laira go to the caves to see if they are there while the others help the evacuation. Sam and Teal'c are forced to leave as a meteor heads straight towards the gate site, they get back to Earth just before the wormhole collapses.
Danger for Sam and Teal'c.
Teal'c asks to be allowed back to Edora to get Jack but Hammond refuses and says they will have to wait until tomorrow.
The next day they dial up Edora, the gate connects but they get no transmissions from the MALP they send through. Hammond tells them the rescue mission is scrubbed until they work out a solution to why they are getting no transmissions.
On Edora Jack, Laira, Goran and his girlfriend return to the village and find the survivors, one of them, Paynan says they tried to flee to the gate but it was gone, Jack rushes off. Arriving at the gate site Jack finds only an impact crater, Jack is stuck there and the Edorans are stuck on Earth.

That evening Laira tells Jack that he is welcome in her home. As the SGC they decide that the gate on Edora must have an 'iris' of Naquada covering it, that is why a wormhole is formed but everything that goes through is destroyed. Hammond declares Jack MIA, Daniel says he will contact some of there allies to see if anyone has a spaceship near. Sam comes up with a plan, if they use a particle beam (similar to what Sokar used in Serpent's Song)they could melt the iris and the wormhole kawoosh would form a cavern which one person could go into and then dig there way out of.
On Edora Laira tells Jack that they need all the help they can get in preparations for the next harvest. During his breaks Jack goes to the gate site and digs for it. Later Laira talks to Jack, she tells him that she mourned her husbands passing for 100 days and then started to reintegrate herself back into society, he will find himself again but it may take time.
THREE MONTHS LATER
Jack seems to have established himself into Edoran society, Laira comes to him and says Paynan thanks him for his help in rebuilding his home. As they walk they end up kissing. That evening they go to a party, there is a game being played where you blindfold one person and the ancestors are meant to lead them to who they are to spend there life with, Jack has a go and is led to Laira.
At the SGC they operate the particle beam, it works and hey create a cavern where the gate is. Teal'c will go through and dig his way to the surface.
On Edora Laira asks Jack to give her a child, she tells him she waited until she knew he was ready to stay with them before asking. Jack tells her that part of him will always be wanting to go home, Laira says that is not the part she wants.
The next day Jack and Paynan are chopping wood. Payan tells Jack that Laira is a fine woman.
Teal'c starts his rescue mission, securing himself inside the cavern. Laira decides it is time for Jack to dump his old clothes, thus letting go of his old life, he agrees.
Laira asks Jack if she can dump his old clothes.
As Laira kneels by the lake to dump the clothes she hears something over Jack's radio, later at dinner she tells Jack who rushes off to the gate site, Jack and Teal'c dig there way to each other.
The Edorans are all reunited and Jack takes a reluctant leave of Laira.
Sam feels awkward with Jack's feelings for Laira.
