On Vorash Daniel, Jack, Major Graham and another SGC man are discussing with the Tok'ra plans for a meeting between the President of the USA and the Tok'ra High Council regarding a formal alliance. When the Supreme High Councilor Per'sus arrives, Major Graham tries to kill him with a weapon of Goa'uld origin, he kills several Tok'ra and an SGC man and injures Per'sus. Graham then kills himself.
Graham goes mad.
Sam arrives on Vorash. Martouf tells them he doesn't hold them accountable for Graham's actions. Freya joins them and says she knows what happened, Graham was under Goa'uld mind control, he was what they call a Ze'tarc. Jack isn't pleased the SGC wasn't informed about anything like this but Martouf tells them that Freya's ideas are only speculation and have even been dismissed by the Tok'ra council. The meeting will still go ahead but Freya will test all the SGC personnel with a device to detect Ze'tarc's.
Freya first test the rest of Graham's team, including a Lt. Astor. Her device detects Ze'tarc's by using a sophisticated form of lie detection including comparing the subconscious to the conscious memory. Astor is question about a recent simple 'meet and greet' mission to P6Y-325 where they were attacked by Goa'uld. As she is questioned the machine picks up she is lying about the attack and that she is a Ze'tarc. General Hammond, O'Neill, Freya and Martouf discuss the situation, Freya has a way to cure Ze'tarc's but it is extremely experimental and could leave the person severely brain damaged. Astor agrees to the treatment but it goes wrong and Astor goes mad and kills herself.
The experiment on Astor goes wrong.
Freya, O'Neill and Hammond discuss what went wrong, Freya says that the mind control must have a built in fail safe and she apologises for the death. Next up for testing is SG-1. Jack and Sam are found to be Ze'tarc's as their real and subconscious memories of the mission in Upgrades don't match. Hammond reorganises some of the details of the meeting while Sam and Jack are put in isolation from the rest of the base. Freya goes to see O'Neill and makes a pass at him, Jack is rather uneasy at this and Freya leaves, apologising again.
Freya kisses Jack.
As Daniel, Jack and Martouf discuss the meeting Freya arrives and tells them that she is worried that Sam and Jack could harm themselves if the triggering event for their mission passes and they are locked up. Martouf goes to see Sam and Daniel sees Jack, they try to make them undergo the treatment Astor under went as it may cure them.
Hammond discusses Sam and Jack with the others.
At another meeting Dr Frasier says that Sam and Jack will have to be sedated during the President's visit so they can't do anyone, including themselves harm. Frasier goes to sedate Jack but he decides he would rather undergo the treatment offered by Freya.
Jack goes off to undergo the Ze'tarc treatment.
Per'sus arrives on Earth.
As Per'sus arrives on Earth, Frasier sedates Sam, as she starts to loose consciousness she says that she and Jack lied without knowing on the test. Frasier rushes off and stops Freya just before she starts the procedure. Sam talks to Jack and tells him that they must tell the whole truth about why he wouldn't leave her in the mission to destroy Apophis's ship. Jack retakes the test and says he wouldn't leave Carter because he cares for her and has feelings he shouldn't have for her, the machine now syas that he isn't a Ze'tarc. Sam is also retested and revealed not to be a Ze'tarc. Asking the others to leave the room Jack and Sam discuss their feelings for each other and know it can't go anywhere due to military regulations.
As the President arrives, Jack, Sam and Freya discuss who the Ze'tarc could be, Freya rules herself out as she hasn't been anywhere that she could have come under mind control, this leaves only Martouf untested in the base. A message is got thru to Daniel and he looks towards Martouf and sees him put on the same kind of weapon Graham had. As he goes to move Martouf out of the room, Hammond arrives with the President and Martouf suddenly attacks. Martouf is shot and zatted but continues his attack, Sam enters and he calls out to her for help, she zats him again this time killing him.
Hammond tells Per'sus that the President is still on Air Force One and that the man he introduced was a decoy to see if any Ze'tarc's were about. Per'sus says that he hopes for all their sakes deception such as this will never be necessary again. As the others recover from what has occurred Sam holds the dead Martouf in her arms.
