THE PLOT

In a hospital operating room Teal'c is undergoing an operation, the Doctor turns round, and it is Apophis. He wakes up in a bunk room, minus his head tattoo and symbiote pouch and acting all human. He wakes up again, this time in his room at SGC.

In the mess Teal'c joins Major Carter. He tells her that he has been unable to Kelnorim, something that would only normally happen if he were injured. As Sam talks to him he warps back into a world where he is a fire-fighter. He is due to donate a kidney to his step father, Bra. As they have breakfast at the fire station (all the SG-1 team are there), they get a call to a RTA. When they get there Teal'c deals with one of the injured men, he turns him over, and it is Apophis. They rescue a kid from the car but can't get the man out. The car catches fire and Teal'c sees Bra inside, he rushes to save him but Bra tells him to get back and save himself. The car explodes, flinging Teal'c back into the SGC reality. He collapses.

Teal'c is taken to the infirmary where he is told to rest. He shuts his eyes and when he opens them again he finds he is in hospital in the other reality. His wife (Shon'ac (see Crossroads)) comes to see him, as does Bra. Bra says that something is wrong and Teal'c knows it, the car exploded next to him yet he has no burns and only a headache! Teal'c returns to the SGC reality where Doctor Frasier says she needs to examine his symbiote. She shuts the cubicle curtains.

The curtains are opened by Dr Daniel Jackson, Teal'c is back in the hospital. Daniel is the hospital psychologist and has come to see Teal'c regarding his dreams. Daniel tells Teal'c that he can stop the operation if he doesn't think Teal'c is fit to go through with in. Daniel leaves and Teal'c starts to walk back to his room, he goes through a door and is back at SGC.

SG-1 are in the gate room ready to go on a mission. Teal'c steps through the gate with them and ends up in a deserted hospital. As he looks around he finds Apophis, he is told that he is scared to die because he thinks he will find Apophis in the after life waiting for him. He runs through the hospital and goes through a door and is back at SGC ready to go on the mission with SG-1 that he just started to go on. He suddenly feels something is wrong, he collapses and grasps at his symbiote pouch, it is gone.

Amidst a battlefield of dead Jaffa, Teal'c lies next to Brat'ac. He pulls a symbiote from Brat'ac and puts it into his own pouch.

Teal'c wakes up in a bed with Shon'ac. The operation has gone ahead and he is one kidney short. He can't remember anything about it or how he got home though, he tells Shon'ac that he doesn't know which reality he is seeing is the real one. Shon'ac tells him that everything will be okay. The next morning he goes to see Bra in the hospital, the new kidney is being rejected by his system. Bra tells Teal'c that he is ready to go if it is his time, Teal'c says that he would rather die himself than let Bra go.

Teal'c is sitting outside when Daniel joins him. He says he knows about the dreams of Teal'c being in a military organisation and that no one told him about it apart from himself, it just seems he has forgotten. Teal'c tells Daniel about the dream again and that he doesn't know which one is real. Daniel says that both can't possibly be real and that perhaps neither is, the reality may be something else. Daniel says to hang in a little longer and starts to walk off, he turns round and says that he has never left Teal'c's side.

AT SGC Teal'c is badly injured, he has been rescued by SG-1, along with Brat'ac. Hammond wants to know what is going on and is told it seems that the rebel Jaffa meeting Teal'c was going too was a trap, all the Jaffa have been killed and their symbiotes removed, the only survivors were Teal'c and Brat'ac and with only one symbiote between them. Teal'c must have transferred the symbiote between the two of them to keep them both alive, a small miracle.

Jacob arrives. He has brought with him a modified version of Tritonnin that has been made for Jaffa immune systems. It has never been tested before but is the only choice they have.

Teal'c wakes up in the infirmary, Daniel is by his bedside. He tells Teal'c that Brat'ac is recovering and that he is just here to check up on Teal'c. He tells Teal'c that he has great strength to do what he did and to go to sleep again, when he wakes up everything will be fine, that's a promise.
